When Everything Falls Apart

When Everything Falls Apart

David is probably one of the characters in the Bible who truly knows what it means to be brokenhearted in every area of life.

The long and endless waiting after being promised a kingship.

The confusion of having your best friend’s father try to kill you.

The betrayal of your wife mocking you for worshiping God with all your heart.

The agony of realizing you have hurt God by committing adultery and murder.

The pain of losing a child because of those sins.

The helplessness of hearing your own son speak against you in front of other leaders because he wanted to be king.

The loneliness of running away from that son just to save your life.

In all these heartbreaks, David saw God’s hand carrying and delivering him through it all. You just have to trust him when he says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”

Every time David was broken, the Lord made him whole in a different way. Through his brokenness, God molded him not just into a better man, but into a king after His own heart, a king who reflects a loving dependence on God alone.

Have you been broken many times? Maybe it’s time to see God’s hand at work in a way you have never seen before. Maybe instead of focusing on how God is working in your situation, maybe it’s time to shift your focus to how He is molding your heart, whatever the outcome may be. Yes, whether the outcome is favorable or not.

What has caused you to be so broken today? Lay it all down before God so he can mend your broken pieces.

Lord, it’s hard to come brokenhearted.

I am fragile and may crumble at any moment.

But I come to You, knowing that

even if these pieces fall apart,

You will put them back together,

and I shall behold the glorious beauty of it.
